ANOTHER “DOUBLE” FOR HEATH
Upper Beeding 2 Haywards Heath Town 3 (Caz Walters, Jo Ashworth, Mel Bramley)- 2nd March 2008
In an extraordinary game Heath found they were playing against only nine players for the second week running, but there the similarity ended. Beeding's speedy striker shocked Heath by scoring two goals in the first two minutes, twice running through to give Heaths keeper Rachel Virgo no chance. Heath to their credit came straight back and replied through player of the match and ex Upper Beeding player Caz Walters just 3 mins later . Heath were however, strangely off the pace and lethargic; no doubt due to certain celebrations within the club the previous evening! With just 3 mins of the half remaining Jo Ashworth equalised from a Mel Bramley pass to send the clubs in at 2-2 at half time.
In the 2nd half Heath emulated Beedings early attack, taking the lead with a fine shot from Mel Bramley within a minute of the restart, and were unlucky not to go further ahead when Lou Creasey hit the post from a corner. Heath had now subdued Beeding's main striker by their close marking and confidently held out for the win.
To win with all players understandably below their best was an excellent result but Heath know that they will be much better prepared and are determined to play much better at home to promotion challengers , high flying Rottingdean, on Sunday.
