ASHWORTH SCORES HATTRICK

Horley Town Reserves 0 Haywards Heath Town 4 (Caz Walters, Jo Ashworth 3[1 Pen])- 3rd Feb 2008

Heath bounced back from their poor performance the previous week to play one of their best games of the season and record their best away win since Sept 2006 , so going ahead of Horley in the table. On a good pitch, Heath were first into their stride and immediately put together some excellent passing moves with Mica Saunders threatening the goal . It was just 11 mins before Caz Walters went on one of her mazy runs and finished well to put Heath ahead . The half continued in the same vein and from a superb one two, Walters appeared to score a beautiful second only for the goal to be controversially disallowed for offside. Heath went in at half time a goal to the good and came out determined to increase their advantage.

Player of the match Jo Ashworth was causing havoc in the Horley defence and from a through ball from Fran Pritlove she coolly slotted in the second just inside the post. Horley nearly pulled one back when they hit the post but Heath were now enjoying themselves and were dealing with Horley's counter attacks well. The defence of Michelle Winnard, Debbie Johnson and Penny Gittins was superbly led by captain Jules Hawthorne. This was Gittins's first full game for three months after a serious leg injury. Heath's midfield were now in complete control and after 65 minutes Heath went further ahead when Ashworth scored a superb third when she expertly chipped the ball over the advancing keeper from a Donna Onslow pass. Ashworth completed her hat trick when she was brought down in the area and calmly sent the keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot.

This was an inspired performance from every member of the squad and Heath now look forward to their quarter final League Cup game at local rivals Hassocks on Sunday.
