SOUTH EAST COUNTIES WOMENS FOOTBALL LEAGUE - PREMIER DIV -

Haywards Heath 3 [Leigh Farley, Jenny Greenfield, Mel Rooney] Hassocks 4 - March 5th 2006

Despite a last minute switch of venue to Victoria Pk , with Hanbury surprisingly deemed unfit for play , and the subsequent lack of time for pre match preparation, Heath got off to a textbook start, with Leigh Farley [Heaths “Player of the Match”]being fouled on the edge of the area after just 11 seconds, and scoring from the resultant free kick with typical Farley accuracy after just 51 seconds. With just 10 mins gone Jenny Greenfield just failed to connect with a Mel Rooney cross, but less than a minute later a great run by Farley saw Greenfield score from close range. Less than 30 mins of play had elapsed before Heath went further ahead, Rooney anticipating well to meet the ball and drive it home.
To their credit Hassocks fought back and reduced the deficit within a couple of minutes and before half time had scored again to give Heath just a slender halftime lead. In the 2nd half Heath seemed unnerved by the Hassocks recovery and went off the boil for quite some time , conceding a goal following a corner and finally to a Hassocks free kick . Towards the end of the game they started to play better again but it was to late. This was a bitterly disappointing result to a game which had started so well, perhaps Heath were just not used to being 3 goals ahead, the first time in a League match this season.
