South East Counties Women’s Football League – League Cup
Haywards Heath Town 0 Upper Beeding 1 - 5th Nov 2006
In a very tight and exciting game at Hanbury, Heath went out of the League Cup to Premier Div side Upper Beeding. In a competitive game Heath started confidently after their good result the previous week although it was Beeding who threatened initially . After the 1st 15 mins Heath gained more confidence with their passing game much in evidence and caused problems to the Beeding defence. This was epitomised by some fluent passing moves that culminated in chances for Karen Bridgewater, Fran Pritlove and Mica Saunders, whilst at the other end Heath performed excellently in defence lead by Captain Julie Hawthorne.
In midfield Lou Creasey was her usual combatitive self, winning many vital tackles.
Heath commenced the second half with a good attacking spell and with both sides looking for a goal the game became very open with chances at both ends. Keeper Claire Imray made both fine and brave saves, one of which was outstanding especially considering that she was clearly unwell. Heath made several chances and especially prominent was Player of the match, Mica Saunders, who created problems for the Beeding defence throughout the match.
With just 6 minutes remaining and with both teams looking to extra time, Heath's hopes were crushed when from a counter attack, the Beeding forward shot home. Heath however must take great positives from a match they could have won against a team currently 3rd in the division above them.
Although Saunders was justifiably adjudged Heaths “Player of the match “ there were many others who were well in the reckoning in a fine and determined team performance of which Manager Dave Gittins was understandably proud .
