HEATH WIN LIFTS THEM TO 4th PLACE

Haywards Heath Town 3 ( Mel Bramley, Mica Saunders, Mel Broome) Abbey Rangers 0 - 6th May 2007

This was no end of season dull game, with Heath determined to win to make it an impressive one defeat in the last 7 league games and lift them to 4th place, the highest they have been all season . For their part , and to their credit, bottom placed Abbey Rangers were equally determined to gain pride from their last game .On a hard pitch and with a swirling wind making play difficult for both teams, Heath's season finally came to an end with a good win to record a double over Chertsey based Abbey Rangers. The game started tentatively but sprang into life, when Mel Bramley latched on to a through ball from Fran Pritlove and skillfully lobbed the advancing keeper for the first goal after just 6 minutes . Heath continued to pile on the pressure where their play was exemplified by some strong running from player of the match, Penny Gittins. Heath continued to make chances and were unfortunate not to increase their lead with Bramley hitting the post before finally 8 mins before half time Mica Saunders at the third attempt after two excellent saves from the Abbey goalkeeper forced the ball home. Saunders and Pritlove both had chances but the score remained at 2-0 at halftime

In the second half Heath never really matched their football of the first and Abbey were unfortunate when minutes after the restart a long shot cannoned off the Heath crossbar. However Heath regained the ascendancy without showing the quality of play they are capable of. With 15 minutes to go Heath made a double substitution, bringing on forwards Nat Trend and Mel Broome and Trend very nearly scored immediately following a good Bramley and Broome move. However within 2 minutes of the substitutions Broome scored with a spectacular overhead lob to put the result beyond doubt.

Heath have finished a very creditable fourth in the table, their highest position for months. This has been mainly due to their excellent attitude in the dressing room and their tremendous team spirit and hard work on the pitch plus of course the input and enthusiasm of 1st Team Manager Dave Gittins. They can look forward to next season with a great deal of confidence.
