South East Counties WFL - ¼ Final Chairmans Cup

Crawley Wasps 4 Haywards Heath Town 0 - 11th March 2007

In a disappointing Chairman's Cup quarter final tie against Premier Div opponents , Heath were strangely subdued after 2 Sundays without a game and never came to terms with Wasp's speedy youngsters and were continually caught by long balls behind their defence. They went behind after just 12 minutes following a quick break on the left and they held the score to 1-0 until half time, the post coming to their rescue on one occasion . The second half continued in the same vein with Heath unable to get any constructive passing going on a very bumpy pitch. Debbie Johnson made some crucial interceptions whilst Captain Julie Hawthorne was often in action, heading the ball to safety but , with Wasps scoring a second 10 mins into the 2nd half , Heath went to three at the back and tried to force the pace. A spell of six consecutive corners couldn't produce a goal and as so often happens in Cup games when the losing side goes all out on attack, Heath were caught twice at the end by breakaway goals. Mica Saunders was Heath's player of the match.
Heath will need to raise their game considerably for the key league visit to Eastbourne Town next Sunday.
