South East Counties Women’s Football League – Div1[W]
Haywards Heath Town 0 Lindfield 1 14th Jan 2007
It was good to get back to Hanbury after over two months away!
Heath were a vastly different proposition to the team beaten at Lindfield four weeks ago despite playing mostly the same players .
There was tremendous effort from everyone especially as players were playing out of position due to injuries, illness and unavailability.
Lindfield started looking to continue where they left off in the previous encounter but Heath weathered the early pressure well and after ¼ hr the game took on an even pattern with both sides having chances to score With just minutes of the 1st half remaining after what appears to be a potentially serious injury to Karen Bridgewater who went off to hospital to have a x-ray on her knee [later found to be a dislocated knee cap].
Heath had to re-organise again with latest signing Charlie Whittaker coming on for her 1st game for 3 years. With the game goalless at half time and with most of Heaths players having only played one game in past eight weeks, it was thought that the 2nd half could be a problem. However despite conceding an early goal when Lindfield broke and scored via the post all Heaths players “dug deep” and gave an outstanding performance considering their lack of games recently.
Special mention must go to player of the match, Debbie Johnson, as well as Mel Bramley and Penny Gittins who ran themselves into the ground.
Team: Kelly Lambert; Eve Todhunter; Debbie Johnson; Julie Hawthorne [capt]; Karen Bridgewater (Charlie Whittaker 40 mins); George Thomas; Mel Bramley; Penny Gittins; Mica Saunders; Fran Pritlove; Mel Broome.
