HEATH REACH DOUBLE FIGURES TWICE IN A MONTH

Jo Ashworth scores four

Abbey Rangers 0 Haywards Heath Town 10 (Cath Diffey, Michelle Winnard, Fran Pritlove, Jo Ashworth 4, Lou Creasey, Julie Hawthorne, Jenny Soliman)- 16th March 2008

Heaths game away to Chertsey based Abbey Rangers was the only game in the South East Counties Womens Football League to beat the very wet conditions and Heath were far too good for a battling Abbey side.

As soon as Heath scored in the second minute with a goal from Cath Diffey, they spent the rest of the game putting together some neat passing moves and creating chances which were taken expertly by all concerned. Despite playing up the slope against a very strong wind Heath went on a goal spree , Michelle Winnard relishing playing up front instead of her normal defensive role to put Heath 2 up after 17 mins after going close minutes earlier. On the half hour a well judged cross from Fran Pritlove enabled Jo Ashworth to tap in from close range to record the 1st of her 4 goals and minutes later Ashworth was the provider for Lou Creasey to score . Ashworth then lobbed the keeper and finally Pritlove scored with almost the last kick of the half to put Heath 6 – 0 up at half time.

After the break the game continued in the same vein. Player of the Match and leading goalscorer Ashworth scored twice more to bring her tally for the game to 4 and her total for the season to 18 in 19 appearances.

Heath took the opportunity to play all 3 subs including giving a debut to Jenny Soliman who scored with about her 3rd touch of the ball, and showed promise for the future . Central defender & Captain Julie Hawthorne got in the act with her 1st goal for at least 2 seasons and finally Ashworth lobbed the keeper from way out to make her tally 4. This was a fine all round performance from Heath who concentrated on playing constructive football whilst Celia Huggett in goal dealt confidently with the rare Rangers attacks behind a defence very much in control.. Credit must go to Abbey who never let their heads drop . Heath maintained their aim of finishing their season in the top half of the table. Heath's firsts have a break on Easter Sunday and continue their programme the following Sunday at Milford and Witley.
