Haywards Heath 1 [Leigh Farley] Chichester 4
Heath came out for the return fixture against 2nd placed Chichester full of hope but fell behind early on when a long ball to Chichesters left wing just eluded Heaths defence , and Chichester’s forward made no mistake . Less than 10 mins later the referee ignored the flag for a clear offside infringement and Chichester scored following a subsequent free kick. Heath however were not downhearted and came back with some good passing moves of their own with Yoli Rietmann and Fran Pritlove working hard and well upfront. Heath's midfield were coming more into the game and this was exemplified by fine running by player of the match, Mel Bramley, Kim Donno and Leigh Farley. From one Chichester corner Karen Bridgewater was well placed to clear off the line and with less than a minute of the half remaining Heath were given a life line when from a flick header from Julie Hawthorne, Leigh Farley ran into the area, held off a defender, and crashed the ball into the roof of the net.
In the second half, Heath started the stronger and for fifteen minutes looked the better team, but as before they were hit on the break and Chichester were 3-1 up with a shot from outside the area. Heath continued to work hard and there were good performances from Kim Strong and substitute Michelle Winnard before Chichester finished the game with a fourth, scoring from the rebound after hitting the post.
As always Heath battled hard to the final whistle with keeper Celia Huggett coming out well to claim the ball, and then diverting a well directed shot for a corner. With 2 mins to go Claire Imray, in her 6th season with Heath, but always as a keeper, made her 1st appearance as an outfield player !!
