South East Counties Women’s Football League – Div 1[W]

Eastbourne Borough 6 Haywards Heath Town 0 - 17th Sept 2006

Heath travelled down to Eastbourne Borough full of hope but without two key defenders and were beaten by a well organized and pacy Eastbourne team. Heath were under pressure from the start as Borough's speedy wingers caused difficulties down the flanks. Heath however were not prepared to concede and held out for half an hour thanks to some outstanding goalkeeping from Claire Imray. When Heath did concede, there was nothing she could do from an excellent through ball. Heath then conceded a very dubious second when the player appeared to be clearly offside, but the referee chose to ignore the Assistant's flag.

At two nil though Heath were still in the game and they came out for the second half with renewed enthusiasm and started to make inroads into the Borough defence; but just when the game appeared to be getting more competitive, Heath conceded a third and were then outplayed for the remainder of the game. Heath however never gave up and this was epitomised by Eve Todhunter who was awarded Heath's player of the match by the Borough team.
