Milford & Witley 1 - Haywards Heath 1 (Mel Broome) - 18th Feb 2007

Heath took the early initiative with George Thomas hitting the bar after only 3 minutes, and continued to mount the more sustained pressure, but without hitting the target too often. Milford’s occasional forays up the slope carried little threat and with neither keeper unduly bothered the teams turned round scoreless. Milfords obvious plan was to win the game down the slope in the second half, but the Heath defence held firm with Penny Gittins dominant in the air and Player of the Match Julie Hawthorne sweeping up anything that got through, and Heath continued to play the better football. Cath Diffey was running midfield, with Mica Saunders and Nat Trend a constant threat up front, and they finally got the breakthrough their efforts deserved when Mel Broome was the more determined in a 50/50 with the goalkeeper and rolled the ball into the net on 63 minutes.
The game continued to be very even and Heath looked liked they were going to hold on for the win, but with virtually their last attack Milford equalised when a cross from the left was hit home from close range in the 6th minute of added time. A draw was probably a fair result, but Heath were disappointed to lose out to the latest of late goals. Team
