HEATH ACHIEVE “DOUBLE” OVER EASTBOURNE TOWN
Eastbourne Town 1 Haywards Heath Town 3 (Nat Trend, Mica Saunders 2) - 18th March 2007
Heath arrived at a very windy Eastbourne to find a very hard pitch and were determined to get back to winning ways.
After a tentative start Heath began to get on top and went in front after 14 minutes when a fierce shot from Natalie Trend found its way into the bottom corner. This was the confidence booster Heath needed and they began to put strong pressure on the Eastbourne goal. On 24 minutes, Heath doubled their tally when player of the match, Mica Saunders rifled a superb 20 yard shot across the keeper into the net. Heath continued to have the majority of the game but 7 mins before half time, from a quickly taken free kick, Eastbourne pulled a goal back.
Heath came out for the second half and within a minute had restored their two goal lead with another superb goal from Saunders. The ball was played through to her on the left and she drew the keeper before lobbing the ball over her head and into the net. The game continued with Heath defending the Eastbourne attacks and continuing to put pressure on the Eastbourne defence. Although Heath began to tire in the last quarter, they ensured that they did not concede any further goals.
Praise must go to the whole team for a battling performance, but special mention must go to the three players up front who worked so tirelessly, Trend, Saunders and Fran Pritlove.
