South East Counties Women’s Football League – Premier Div

Haywards Heath Town 2 (Leigh Farley, Del Cook) Dover 3 - 18th Sept 2005

Heath started slowly against a lively Dover side and spent most of the first twenty minutes in their own half. However a fast break saw Leigh Farley burst through the centre and hit a beautiful shot over the keeper for the opening goal. This changed the passage of play with Heath now on top, but against the run of play just before half time, the ball fell to an unmarked striker who equalized. Heath's goalkeeper Mel Rooney then pulled a calf muscle and had to be replaced at half time by striker Natalie Bagwell.

Heath came out for the second half determined to regain the lead, but unfortunately an awful bounce saw the ball end up in the Heath net. Heath continued to play the better football and on 63 minutes were rewarded with an equaliser from substitute Del Cook who took her chance coolly. Although the match appeared to be heading for a draw Heath looked the more threatening until there was confusion in the Heath defence and the ball was bundled into the net five minutes from time.

This was a match that Heath should have won, but were punished by some sloppy defending. Leigh Farley continued her good form and was rightfully voted Player of the Match.
