Sussex County Womens Challenge Cup

Haywards Heath Town 3 ( Caz Walters, Mel Bramley 2) Lindfield 2 (aet) - 21st Oct 2007

Heath continued their excellent form from the previous week in knocking out their local rivals in a very tight Sussex Cup first round tie. Both teams attacked from the start and Heath's first opportunity came when Caz Walters unleashed a tremendous shot which came back off the bar. She was not to be denied however in 20th minute when she shot home firmly. The match continued from end to end and Lindfield forced an equaliser before half time.

The second half continued at the same speedy pace and half chances were being created by both teams. Mel Bramley was introduced in the second half for the injured Ashworth but the 90 minutes finished with the game still level.

In the first period of extra time Heath went back in front when the ball broke to Mel Bramley who calmly lobbed the keeper. Lindfield continued to push forward and were rewarded with an equaliser from a corner Heath were not to be denied however when Mel Bramley fastened on to a ball on the edge of the area and hit one of the best shots seen for some time with just 5 mins remaining. This was a tremendous performance from every Heath player but special mention must go to Cath Diffey, Fran Pritlove, Lou Creasey and goalkeeper Rachel Virgo who made some outstanding saves.

This was a thoroughly entertaining game played in the right spirit and the two teams will meet again at Hanbury this Sunday in the league.
