South East Counties Womens Football League – Premier Div - Oct 23rd 2005
Wandgas 2 Haywards Heath Town 1 [Natalie Bagwell]
In a very competitive match, Heath played their best football of the season against a high flying Wandgas team.
The match started at a fast tempo with Heath taking Wandgas by surprise and having the bulk of the possession. They were soon putting pressure on the home defence and coping easily with the Wandgas attacks. As the game approached half time, Heath deservedly went in front with a superbly struck shot from Natalie Bagwell after some excellent approach play from Mel Bramley.
Heath tried to maintain their advantage after half time but conceded an equaliser after 53 minutes. The game then see-sawed from end to end but an unfortunate ricochet handed the home team what proved to be the winner. Heath never gave up and five minutes from team should have been awarded a penalty for a blatant handball but this was not given by the referee.
Heath's goalkeeper Vicky Lank had an excellent game in goal and was given the player of the match award. This was an excellent performance however by every member of the squad and the team is looking forward to the trip to Littlehampton on Sunday.
Team: Vicki Lank; Kim Strong ( Lou Creasey 60); Michelle Winnard; Penny Gittins; George Thomas; Kim Donno; Leigh Farley; Mel Bramley; Karen Bridgewater ( Del Cook 75); Jenny Greenfield; Natalie Bagwell. Sub not used Emma Birkitt.
