HEATH EQUAL ON POINTS WITH LEADERS

Haywards Heath Town 2 [Fran Pritlove, Karen Bridgewater] Whitehawk Res 1 - 24th Sept 2006

In a wonderfully competitive game, Heath triumphed over a dogged Whitehawk team with the winner coming from Karen Bridgewater with just three minutes to play and so preventing Whitehawk heading the table. Heath welcomed back Lou Creasey to the team and she made her presence known in the first few minutes with some tough tackling, which seemed to inspire other members of the team to do the same. Heath were competitive in all parts of the field especially with Player of the Match, Clair Imray in the Heath goal who was her usual commanding self. Imray epitomised the attitude of the whole team, returning from University in Bournemouth especially for the match. After an end to end half with chances at both ends and Whitehawk hitting the woodwork twice, Heath went ahead when from a misunderstanding in the Whitehawk defence; Fran Pritlove was first to react and forced the ball home from close range. Heath hoped to go in with the lead, but right on half time Whitehawk scored a well taken goal.

The second half started in the same vein with both sides attacking. Mel Bramley was introduced with 25 minutes remaining and started to make a difference with her surging runs with the ball. It looked like the game would however end in a draw, when from a sweeping move down the right, Bramley hit a cross which was controlled beautifully by Natalie Trend and laid off to Karen Bridgewater who fired an unstoppable shot past the keeper. Heath held the Whitehawk strikers at bay for the final few minutes. This was an excellent team performance and special mention must go to George Thomas and the back four who were outstanding. In her 1st game of football Rachel Virgo showed plenty of promise in her brief outing
