Haywards Heath Town 1 (“George” Thomas) Rottingdean 3 - 25th March 2007

After last week's good win at Eastbourne, Heath went into this game full of confidence and were unlucky not to go ahead early on when they put pressure on the Rottingdean defence with some good through balls and it only seemed a matter of time before they went ahead. The goal duly arrived with 20 mins of the 1st half remaining when George Thomas latched onto a half cleared ball and shot calmly into the net. Heath could have gone further ahead with more clinical finishing but with less than 10 mins remaining before halftime they failed to clear their lines and Rottingdean equalised from close range. Just before halftime Mica Saunders went close from a long shot with Rottingdeans keeper well beaten.

Heath came out for the second half and were soon shocked when Rottingdean scored a second from distance. Mica Saunders then nearly equalised with the ball going just over the top. Heath suddenly seemed strangely subdued and their performance in the final half hour was disappointing. Heath brought on new legs in attack in the form of Tasha Sole with 12 mins to go in an attempt to get back in the game. Despite being reduced to 10 players with 10 mins remaining as a red card was shown, Rottingdean scored their third right on time in spite of a brave save from Kelly Lambert. Generally the Heath defence played well led by player of the match, Penny Gittins.

Ever present in League games and Captain for most of the season, defender Julie Hawthorne was on the subs bench after suffering an injury during training midweek , whilst Jo Fairbairn, hoping to make her 1st team debut , was understandably not called in such a tight match .

Team: Kelly Lambert; Michelle Winnard; Debbie Johnson; Penny Gittins(Capt.); Eve Todhunter; George Thomas; Cath Diffey; Mel Bramley; Mica Saunders; Fran Pritlove; Natalie Trend;(Natasha Sole 78). Subs not used: Jo Fairbairn; Julie Hawthorne.
