Kim Donno scores in 1st game for 19 months
Haywards Heath Town 2 (Kim Donno; Jo Ashworth) Upper Beeding 1- 25th Nov 2007
Against Upper Beeding, who last season were in the Premier Div, Heath started this game with three regulars unavailable but became more and more confident as the game wore on. Beeding were quick out of the blocks and put the defence under pressure with their main striker causing problems. Heath were saved by some incredible last ditch tackles from Capt Julie Hawthorne and particularly Debbie Johnson plus keeper Celia Huggett being in top form. . On one of Heath's rare sorties up field, Kim Donno reached the ball before the Beeding goalkeeper and calmly chipped the ball into the net from a distance and an acute angle after 30 mins had elapsed . This was Kim's first game for 19 months after a serious back injury.
In the second half Heath Caz Walters , back from injury , replaced Donno and Heath started to come more into the game and were much more competitive with everyone in the team playing with enthusiasm and support for each other. The defence of keeper Huggett, Michelle Winnard, Debbie Johnson, Eve Todhunter, captain Julie Hawthorne and player of the match, Lou Creasey were outstanding with Johnson and Hawthorne yet again making last ditch clearances. They gave renewed confidence to everyone in the team and following a free kick Jo Ashworth hit a superb shot for Heath's second.with just 10 mins remaining. Heath were caught by a free kick five minutes from the end which was headed into the net but held on for a fine victory in a Cup final type atmosphere . New signing Kate Shaw came on for the final 20 minutes and showed that she will be a valuable addition to the first team squad.
The morale of the team is excellent and Heath now look forward to a league cup game against Bexhill from the Premier Div on Sunday 2nd Dec .
