SOUTH EAST COUNTIES WOMENS FOOTBALL LEAGUE - PREMIER DIV - Feb 26th 2006

Two Games were played [ie A "Double Header"]

Haywards Heath 0 Horley 2

With Heaths 1sts game against Horley being called off 2 weeks ago with Horleys pitch being declared waterlogged, Heath were due to travel to Horley again, this time for a “Double Header” in the Premier Div of the SECWFL. However Horleys pitch was again waterlogged so a late switch was made to play the games at Hanbury. Heath came out against high flying 2nd places Horley , hoping that a double header would give them a chance of picking up a point. At the end they had been narrowly beaten in both and the disappointment was there for all to see. Heath played the first game defensively and soaked up Horley's pressure with Player of the match, Vicki Lank excellent in the Heath goal, the highlight being a well judged tip over the bar, whilst she also made well judged dashes to the edge of her area to deny Horley . The game was goalless at half time and there was a buzz in the dressing room as Heath believed that they could get something from the game. Heath introduced two subs at half time and the game continued in similar manner. However in the middle of the second half Horley managed to breach Heath's defence twice despite some outstanding performances especially from Julie Hawthorne and Gemma Paull, whilst up from Emma Skilton, more often a 3rd team player showed a good footballing brain .

1st Game Team: Vicki Lank; Michelle Winnard; Rebecca Smallman; Julie Hawthorne; Gemma Paull; Catherine Diffey(Leigh Farley 30);Del Cook;(Kim Strong 30);Jo d'Ambra; Emma Skilton; Alison Field; Keveena Mosen. Subs not used: Jenny Greenfield; Penny Gittins; Emma Burkitt.

In the second game, Heath changed their squad and regretfully conceded a goal within the 1st minute or so , with a 2nd following ¼ hr later when the defence where uncharacteristically lax . Smarting from this reverse Heath started playing and as half time approached, a typical run by “Player of the match” Leigh Farley culminated in her being fouled yards outside the area. However from her beautifully struck free kick into the top corner she reduced the deficit to give Heath a fighting chance in the second half. Despite all the effort however it was not to be and Heath must now look forward to the important games against Hassocks and Upper Beeding over the next ten days.

Despite the initial disappointment Heath can take plenty of positives from the games where they so nearly provided an upset to promotion chasers Horley

2nd Game Team: Vicki Lank; Michelle Winnard;(Alison Field 30);Kim Strong; Penny Gittins; Emma Burkitt; Mel Rooney(Emma Skilton 35);Leigh Farley; Catherine Diffey; Mel Bramley; Jenny Greenfield; Fran Pritlove. Subs not used: Julie Hawthorne; Gemma Paull; Jo d'Ambra.
