Haywards Heath Town 1 (Mel Bramley) Upper Beeding 4- 29th March 2006
Heath came out with all guns blazing for this crucial game floodlight game on Wed 29th March despite losing captain Penny Gittins to injury before the game and having several other players unavailable due to injury Heath went 1-0 down within five minutes but refused to let their heads drop and soon were passing the ball around the pitch. Kim Donno was in very spirited form and making some excellent runs. She hit two superb long range shots, one just over and the second hitting the bar whilst Leigh Farley’s lob was high . However Heath were not to be denied an equaliser and from a superb passing movement from one end of the pitch to the other, Mel Bramley rifled the shot home with less than 30 mins played . The half finished with both teams playing at pace..
The game continued in the same vein in the second half, with Heath getting on top. Unfortunately they got hit on the break by the speedy Beeding forwards and conceded a second. To their eternal credit Heath continued to go forward and despite the conditions worsening with driving rain, continued to threaten. However some quality finishing from Upper Beeding enabled them to score two further goals to leave the scoreline very unrepresentative of the game as a whole.
This was one of the best performances of the season by Heath who were unfortunate to meet Beeding playing undoubtedly their best game of the season. There were sterling performances from every player on the field who can take much credit from the game, but especially from Player of the match Jenny Greenfield with her sweeping accurate passes. It was also pleasing to see players more often in the 2nds – Julie Hawthorne, Rebecca Smallman and Yoli Rietmann contributing fully to the excellent performance.
