South East Counties Womens Football League - Div 1[W]

Milford & Witney 3 Haywards Heath Town 1 (Mel Bramley) - 30th March 2008

Heath came away from Milford with no points, but a good display that on another day could well have won. The game started briskly on a sticky pitch and within less than 15 mins Heath found themselves a goal down after a terrible bobble let in the Milford striker, giving keeper Celia Huggett no chance. Heath however came straight back and were creating chances of their own through Mel Bramley & Jo Ashworth but found the Milford keeper in good form.

Coming out for the second half one goal down, Heath started to get on top and had the greater possession. Player of the match Jo Ashworth was causing problems to the Milford defence and from a beautiful cross from substitute Michelle Winnard a flying header was superbly pushed round the corner by the keeper. Mica Saunders was brought on with just over 15 mins remaining and also was causing problems when Milford caught Heath on the break to go 2-0 ahead with 10 mins remaining. Heath showed character and went straight back up the pitch and Mel Bramley swept the ball home from a Saunders pass to reduce the arrears. Both sides were getting tired on the heavy pitch but Heath were the ones who appeared to have the upper hand, but could not find an equaliser.

In the final minute of injury time a debatable penalty decision enabled Milford to score their 3rd goal and finish with a flattering scoreline which didn’t reflect the game. Heath will play worse than this and win, so they go in good heart next Sunday for a visit to Meadow Sports where a win would put them ahead of Meadow and in the top half of the table.
