Sussex County FA Women's League - Div 1
Haywards Heath Town 2nds 1 (Mel Bramley) Crawley Down 5 - 1st Apr 2007
Heath felt it just wasn’t going to be their day when they conceded a goal after just 38 seconds and , despite some good work by keeper Huggett, so it turned out . A combination of a good performance by Crawley Downs keeper , the crossbar coming the Downs rescue , plus Heath not having their shooting boots on meant that at half time Heath were 2-0 down .
With the strong wind in their favour Heath felt they could get back into the game but hopes were dashed just 2 mins into the 2nd half when Crawley were not closed down and made the score 0-3 . In an attempt to get back into the game Heath brought on an additional striker in Nat Trend but with just 15 mins of the 2nd half gone they were 5 goals behind . To their credit Heath refused to let their heads drop and Rachel Virgo brilliantly connected with a Mel Bramley cross only to see Downs keeper deny her a goal. Minutes later Heath finally scored, Bramley[Heaths “Player of the Match” ] forcing the ball home from close range . Alison Field came on as a sub with 30 mins to play her 1st game since Oct and showed she has lost none of her strengths .
