Sussex County FA Womens League - Div 1
Haywards Heath 2nds 3 [Mel Conniff 2, Keveena Mosen] Crawley Down 1 - 9th Sept 2007
With Crawley Down turning up 10 minutes after the proposed kick off time, Heath had plenty of chance to get into the positive mind set that would allow them to collect 3 points from their first game.
Heath started well, and immediately put Crawleys defence under pressure with a number of attacks. Strikers Keveena Mosen and Managers Player of the Match Mel Conniff worked extremely well together linking up well with midfielders Natasha Kaye and Louise Creasey pulling apart Crawleys defence. All this good work finally created a goal after a through ball from Kaye, for Mosen to flick over and Conniff to hit first time into the back of the net with just 15 mins gone. An amazing first goal of the season.
Heath then settled into their game, but also allowed Crawley to also settle into theirs resulting in an equalising goal within 10 mins .
At half time Ella Kenny replaced Kaye with Mosen switching back into central midfield. The break seemed to give Heath a second wind with them positive from the start. The defence of Jo Fairbairn, Dawn Gaston (captain), Rebecca Smallman, Julie Boyce and goalkeeper Celia Huggett having an exceptional game Heath stayed strong with Huggett left with little to do although Crawley did hit the bar twice. Fairbairn and Boyce linked well with wingers Nat Trend, who was replaced by Jo d’Ambra, and Jo Stevenson allowing Heath more chances on goal from all areas of the pitch. Again some good work from central midfield allowed Conniff through on goal for her second which she slotted home well less than 10 mins into the half . Heath continued in this form, with Mosen finding herself in the right place at the right time after an injury allowing her to score with 6 mins remaining . Claire Imray replaced d’Ambra on 85 minutes.
This was an excellent result for Heaths 2nds and a positive way to start the new season. An exceptional performance from all 14 players that were included in the squad, with special mention to Mel Conniff and Heaths defence who stepped up to the mark when needed. Well done everyone !!
