Sussex County FA Women's League - Div 1
HEATH 2nds BEATEN BY DIV 1 CHAMPIONS
Haywards Heath Town 2nds 0 B & H Albion 2nds 4 - 11th Mar 2007
A sunny start to the day didn’t continue during Heaths match. Heath caused problems from the start for Brightons defence, and they seemed rattled for the first 20 minutes. Brighton got their breakthrough from a very dubious handball decisiongiven inside the penalty area, which was calmly slotted away. Heath continued to fight and the midfield of Keveena Mosen, Julie Boyce, Michelle Schofield, Jo Stevenson and making her Heath debut Managers Player of the Match Carly Vaughan created some good chances along with striker Rachel Virgo. Vaughan made some excellent attacking runs closing down the Brighton defence with one shot just going over the crossbar. Heath conceded a 2nd goal that resulted from an uncleared corner.
In the 2nd half Brighton seemed to have finally found their rhythm, with some good passing being displayed. They seemed to have more attacking chances, but Heaths defence of Dawn Gaston, Jo Fairbairn, Bex Smallman and captain Gemma Paull kept much of the ball away from keeper Celia Huggett but she was still required to make some excellent saves. Brighton scored another goal from a quick attack, but Heath didn’t give up with Vaughan and Virgo having more chances. With about 15 minutes to go Brighton finished their scoring with another attack.
Heath played excellently against the Division One Champions and showed the true potential that we hope to see more of in the final 2 game and continuing into next season.
