Sussex County FA Women’s League - Div 1
Adur Athletic 2 Haywards Heath Town 2nds 1(Keveena Mosen) - 11th Nov 2007
A young, fit and skilful Adur side put pressure on Heath from the off, despite taking the field with only ten players.
Heath resisted the pressure well, playing five across the middle and with a solid defence, with Alison Field in goal also playing the role of sweeper, intercepting a lot of the attacks, which came down both wings.
After 40 minutes Adur scored a fluke goal when what looked like a cross flew in to the top left-hand corner of the goal, giving Field no chance.
Heath narrowly missed the chance to equalise just before half time when Nat Trend’s shot seemed certain to hit the back of the net. Unfortunately it hit the post and nobody followed in the rebound, as the entire team was convinced that Trend had scored.
In the second half Jo d’Ambra, Natasha Kaye and Keveena Mosen linked well together in central midfield. Carly Vaughan returning from injury then replaced the industrious d’Ambra and Heath levelled as Mosen nodded in a superb header from Vaughan’s corner kick.
Adur responded with sustained pressure, attacking from the wings, and had several shots on goal. They were rewarded with a late winner on 85 minutes.
Heath deserved so much more from this performance, and will take all the positives into next weeks cup game against Seahaven. Managers player of the match this week was Dawn Gaston.
