South East Counties Womens Football League - Div 1[W] - 12th March 2006

Haywards Heath 2nds 2 [Yoli Rietmann 2] Milford & Witley 1

Heaths 2nds made much harder work of completing the double over Milford & Witley than they should have done after going ahead in less than 5 minutes, Yoli Rietmann steering the ball just inside the post after good work by Mica Saunders. However despite much good work, with Saunders, Natalie Trend [Heaths “Player of the Match”] and Kim Donno prominent in attack , and Saunders hitting the post with one shot, Heath failed to increase their lead and were punished with a swift counterattack on the half hour with keeper Celia Huggett have no chance. This reverse stiffened Heaths defensive resolve and the back four of Hawthorne, Paull, Smallman and Johnson worked well for each other, enabling their midfield to support the forwards well. In the 2nd half, with the slope in their favour Heath were very much on top, with Rietmann constantly in action, and determination by her was rewarded by a goal from close range with defenders surrounding her. Mica Saunders [Managers “Player of the Match”] again found the woodwork and on another day could easily have been on the list of scorers, but it was not to be. Kim Donno, playing her 1st game since January due to injury, sent over some fine crosses, Debbie Johnson in defence , in only her 3rd game for the 2nds, is quickly finding her feet at this level and Marianne Bowtell, in her debut showed promise. To sum up, a well worked victory with the whole team working hard for each, on another day it could have seen many more goals
