Sussex County FA Womens League – Div 1
Seahaven Harriers 1 Haywards Heath Town 2nds 1 [Natalie Trend] - 12th Nov 2006
Heaths 2nds started this game like never seen before. From the start everybody put pressure on 3rd placed Seahaven. Stand-in captain Jo d’Ambra and Tasha Sole played excellently together in central midfield running tirelessly up and down the pitch keeping Seahaven at bay. With good teamwork from the defence of keeper Celia Huggett, Sasha Fry, Rebecca Smallman, Keveena Mosen and Sam Coppard they cleared any signs of danger. With Jo Fairbairn playing only her 2nd full game for the club, she made a huge impact on the left side of midfield, supporting Coppard when needed and linking up well with strikers Julie Boyce and Nat Trend, returning to the 2nds for only the second time this season. Jo Stevenson on the right wing also made some good runs, and creating some chances with balls into the box for Trend and Boyce. Against the run of play Seahavens striker made an excellent run through central defence, taking the ball round Huggett and slotting it in the back of the net.
This gave Heath the push they needed and some excellent passing led to a through ball for Trend to latch onto and smashing it past the Seahaven keeper.
A half time swap of positions put Sole up front and bought Trend into central midfield. Trend kept Seahavens most dangerous player at bay excellently, and Boyce looked confident holding the ball up. Seahaven continued to attack but again the defence linked up brilliantly with Mosen clearing one ball from the goal line and Huggett making many saves. Fighting until the end Heath created another chance for Sole who made an excellent pass across the box which Fairbairn hit cleanly with her left foot but the keeper managed to push it wide.
This week the team really pulled together and fought really well. A good return match for them as at home they were beaten 5-1 by the same team. A special mention must go to the 2 subs who unfortunately manager Sarah Miller couldn’t get on due to the closeness of the game. Managers Player of the Match goes to the whole team this week, because everyone played their best game of the season.
