Sussex County FA Women's League - Div 1

Felpham 4 Haywards Heath Town 2nds 2 (Jo Stevenson, Natalie Trend) - 14th Jan 2007

After 8 weeks without a game Heath knew that this match was going to be hard to get into. As it proved Heath were 2 down within 20 minutes. This seemed to give them the wake up call and Heath started to play some excellent football, working with each other and attacking Felphams inexperienced goalkeeper. Good work from the defence of captain Keveena Mosen, Rebecca Smallman, Managers player of the match Sasha Fry goalkeeper Celia Huggett and playing her first game of the season Dawn Gaston kept Felpham at bay, but unfortunately couldn’t stop Felpham slipping another one past Huggett.
At half time the players realised that they would have to up their game to try to get something out of this. A re-shuffle led to a 5 man midfield, which worked excellently. Tasha Kaye doing an outstanding job at the holding role in midfield brought wingers Jo Stevenson and Julie Boyce into the game more, showing what they were capable of. A corner came from one of heaths attacks and a well placed corner by Tasha Sole saw Stevenson lob the keeper to make it 3-1. This seemed to give Heath a lifeline and we continued in the same form. Lone striker Natalie Trend linked up well with midfielders Jo Fairbairn and Sole to keep the pressure on Felphams defence. Also some attacking came from defence with Mosen making some daring runs through the field. Eventually Trend was put through clear on goal and even after some pressure from the defence she managed to slot it into the net. Throughout the second half Huggett pulled off a ton of one on one saves to keep Heath in the game. Lack of match fitness showed and unfortunately Felpham took the chance to extend their lead again. Heath worked extremely well in this game and showed some of the spirit that Manager Sarah Miller wants to get out of them. A tough match next week against Brighton and Hove who top the table.
