Haywards Heath 2nds 3 [Yoli Rietmann 2, Mica Saunders] Abbey Rangers 0
This was a match where Heath 2nds really showed what they were capable of, inflicting a comprehensive defeat to Chertsey based Abbey Rangers in a match where every player gave 100% and were rewarded for their efforts. Heath started well with Mica Saunders testing Abbeys keeper early on , The attack of Saunders, Keveena Mosen , Fran Pritlove and Yoli Rietmann put together some good moves but often, in very sticky conditions, it was difficult to weight the final pass correctly down the slope. Rietmann went close twice with the game mostly in Rangers half and finally her efforts were rewarded when midway through the half she ran onto a through ball from Pritlove , beat the oncoming keeper to lob into the net. Heath could have gone further ahead minutes before half time following a corner, but Rietmann’s fierce drive was headed away by a Rangers defender with the keeper well beaten and then Mosen headed wide from a Saunders cross. In a breakaway movement in the final minute of the half Heaths keeper Vicki Lank dashed out and did enough cause Rangers forward to put to much effort into her lob, which hit the bar with Lank able to collect the rebound.
In the 2nd half forward Natalie Trend replaced midfielder Louise Rice and Heat continued to dominate , with Saunders putting Heath 2 goals ahead after an hours play following good work by Trend. Although the Rangers attack was seen more often with the slope in their favour Heaths defence of Gemma Paull, Julie Hawthorne, Bev Loftus and Louise Creasey were confident in front of the experienced Lank in goal who was rarely troubled. With 15 mins to go Alison Field replaced Becki Smallman, who had had a good game, and although Heath were required to scramble away a couple of Rangers corner kicks Heath went further ahead when Rietmann scored her second after a well judged pass by Heaths “Player of the Match" Mosen .
Heaths Manager Sarah Miller , who chose Bev Loftus and Louise Creasey as “Managers Player of the Match" was delighted with Heaths performance, as were the many supporters
