Sussex County FA Womens League – Div 1

Haywards Heath Town 2nds 1 [Rachel Virgo] Seahaven 5 - 15th Oct 2006

After a few late dropouts Heath were down to 12 with an injured Sam Coppard willing to start in defence. With a defence of Managers Player of the Match keeper Tasha Kaye, Gemma Paull (captain), Rebecca Smallman, Coppard and Alison Field, working hard, nothing could stop Seahavens quick forwards scoring 2 quick goals. Coppard was replaced by debutant Sasha Fry who made a few impressionable hard tackles. Heath became more determined with midfielders Rachel Virgo, Keveena Mosen, Jo Stevenson and the ever improving Julie Boyce linking up well with forwards Jo D’Ambra and Tasha Sole. Heath attacked well but struggled to put the finishing touches together. Seahaven scored another goal, and heath replied with some determination which saw Virgo go through 4 defenders and slot the ball past the keeper.
A few tactical changes at half time left Sole up front as a lone striker, and a 5 man midfield gave the defence some extra needed support. Seahaven continued to attack in string numbers and Heath were caught on the back foot for Seahaven to go 4-1 up. Some fantastic diving, yes diving, saves from Kaye showed how much she has improved over the last few weeks, and started to frustrate Seahavens strikers. With Virgo struggling with an injury, but determined not to come off Heath were unlucky to concede the final goal. There were so many positives to take out of this game, with every player improving so much week by week, and the team slowly getting to know each other. The 2nds first win is on its way, and when it does it’ll be because of the hard work and determination this team put in every week.
