Sussex County FA Womens League - Div 1

Langton Green 2 Haywards Heath Town 2nds 0 - 16th Sept 2007

Heath took the positive play from last week into this game with the starting lineup unchanged with the exception of Julie Hawthorne replacing unavailable Tasha Kaye Heath started sprightly and continued their good passing game. The defence of Jo Fairbairn, Bex Smallman (Managers Player of the Match), Dawn Gaston and Julie Boyce, along with keeper Celia Huggett kept Langtons strikers at bay. Good ball distribution from central midfielders Hawthorne and Lou Creasey gave Heath plenty of balls for Mel Conniff and Keveena Mosen to work with linking in well with Nat Trend and Jo Stevenson. Heath continued to work hard, but with a downhill pitch and a quick reacting Langton keeper, Heath couldn’t put the finishing touches to any through balls. With 30 minutes gone, Langton made a quick attack and from an uncleared cross they were able to go 1-0 ahead.
At half time, Heath had time to calm down and take their fingers off the panic button as they knew uphill would be a hard 2nd half task. With a swirling wind against Heath in the 2nd half, Langton managed to pin Heath back in their half for the majority of the time. On 50 minutes Claire Imray replaced Trend, with hope that fresh legs would enable us to have some attacking option. Heaths defence along with Hawthorne and Creasey worked extremely hard and continued to keep the ball out of the back of the net. Unfortunately from one of Langton many corners, they managed to curl one straight in the goal before anyone had a chance to clear it. Heath continued to fight and created some attacking chances, with Conniff and Mosen continuing to work well. Sarah Bridges replaced Jo Stevenson on 75 minutes, and made an excellent debut for the 2nds.
Overall the match was very hard with the pitch and wind, but Heath never gave up and continued to show a new positive attitude that should take them far this season. A much improved result from last seasons 10-1 loss to Langton Green.
