South East Counties Womens Football League - Div 1[W] - 18th Sept 2005
Eastbourne Borough 1 Haywards Heath Town 2nds 0
This was always going to be a difficult game for Heath with the top team Eastbourne playing Heath pointless after 2 games, Borough also had ex-England player, Debbie Bampton on the field. The game started off very badly in the first minute of play, striker Yoli Rietmann had the ball blasted at point blank range hitting her in the face and chipping her tooth and cutting her tongue, she was subbed off and replaced by Gemma Yates . The game started off as all one way traffic with Heath unable to get out of their half. In the 25th min keeper Claire Imray was forced to make an excellent save tipping the ball over the bar. Lou Creasey and Alison Field both playing in the centre of defence the first time together made an outstanding contribution making numerous clearances and interceptions. In the 40th min Heath had their first shot of the game on target with Natalie Trend, who had not stopped running all half, causing the Eastbourne keeper to make her first save. Unfortunately Eastbourne then broke away leaving 2 defenders against 3 attackers then scored the only goal of the game.
After half time Heath came out of the changing rooms a different team, they started off the half well pressurizing Eastbourne and giving them no time on the ball which was forcing them to lose possession and make errors. Heath put together a good move down the right hand side involving Jo Stevenson and Keveena Mosen which lead to a free kick just outside the box which was taken by Mica Saunders who took the keeper by surprise shooting straight at goal the Eastbourne keeper just managed to push the ball round the post. Play for a while went Eastbourne’s way with keeper Imray, playing her last game before departing to University, making two superb saves, she will definitely be missed by the team. Heath then won a corner this set piece again taken by Saunders who put a good ball into the box and Louise Rice getting on the end of to again force the keeper into a save which was parried inches wide. Heath carried on attacking at this time with Keveena Mosen (Managers player of the Match) and Jo Stevenson combining well and Mosen having a shot at goal which was just over the crossbar. A few minutes later Mosen again got into a shooting position this time it went just wide. This was a much-improved performance by Heath and if they play like this against other teams in this division I am sure they will win games this season.
