South East Counties Womens Football League - Div 1[W] - 19th Feb 2006
Meadow Sports 3 Haywards Heath 2nds 0
After continuous rain for the previous 24 hours it was a surprise to find the pitch in good condition. With the return of Player of the Match Celia Huggett in goal following a recent hand injury in training , she made it on the right week with an outstanding performance.
Heath started the first half against “Top of Table” Woking based Meadow Sports with their minds not totally focused on the game after some last minute paperwork queries from the manager of Meadow Sports. 2 quick goals were scored past Huggett after miscommunications between Heaths defence. With Gemma Paull and Gemma Yates swapping position Heath contained their strikers for a while.
Some good work produced by the midfield of Louise Rice, Louise Creasey, Jenny Greenfield and Mica Saunders, working together to put some good through balls for Keveena Mosen and Yoli Rietmann. Meadow Sports formed another attack which resulted in the 3rd goal.
Heaths heads were down, but after half time changes of Natalie Trend and Penny Gittins boosted Heaths game. Good support work for wingers by Rebecca Smallman and Penny Gittins enabled Heath to continue to attack Meadow Sports but was rewarded with nothing. With 15 minutes to go fresh legs of Fran Pritlove were introduced with Natalie Trend moving into attack.
This was a disappointing result for Heath as all of Meadow Sports goals were scored in the first 25 minutes, so being kept at bay for 65 by Heaths fight and determination. Joint Managers Players of the match Julie Hawthorne and Yoli Rietmann both had outstanding games.
