Eastbourne Town 1 Haywards Heath 2nds 0
After an interesting and busy morning for manager Sarah Miller, to turn up and have to tell your players you have no subs is hard, luckily Belinda Cramp had bought her boots, but seen as she’s been out for so long injured she shouldn’t have really played. Against a team like Eastbourne Town who we are very equally matched with, we knew this would be a tough match.
With the one off appearance from Claire Imray in goal and the defence of Julie Hawthorne, Rebecca Smallman, Gemma Paull and Alison Field, all did an excellent job at the offside trap to keep Eastbourne 2 quick strikers at bay. With Keveena Mosen and Louise Rice holding the midfield together lots of chances were created for wingers Mica Saunders and Francesca Pritlove to chase down and provide crosses for strikers Yoli Rietmann and Natalie Trend. Throughout the first half Eastbourne continued to apply pressure with Imray making 3 fine one on one saves to keep us in it. Heath had chances, the most important with Eastbourne's goalkeeper making a huge error but her defence coming to her aid before Rietmann or Pritlove could slot it in the back of the net.
The second half continued as the first did, both sides having chances but good work from both defences kept the scoreline at 0-0. 75 minutes in Eastbourne broke up the wing, and with Imray having too much of her goal to cover a cross turned in to a very lucky goal!!!
Heath continued to battle but failed to create an equaliser. On 80 minutes Cramp replaced Paull, Paull suffering from blurred vision after receiving a knock.
This was a hard game, especially in the circumstances that we were in. Eastbourne Town played a very dirty game, with Heaths players receiving insults and abuse, and you don’t mind losing to a nice team, but to lose to a team like Eastbourne Town is very hard to take in. Heaths 2nds showed their commitment to the club today and kept fighting until the end. Well Done.
