Sussex County FA Womens League – Div 1
Haywards Heath Town 2nds 2 [Natasha Sole, Jo Stevenson] Felpham 4 - 24th Sept 2006
In their 1st match of the season Heath showed plenty of promise but failed to capitalize on their scoring chances. With Heath fielding 3 players making their debut for the Club, and Natasha Kaye playing her 1st game in goal, the team needs a few games before they can be the force they plan to be but there were plenty of positives to take from the game. Kaye was soon in action, tipping a shot safely onto the bar and within 7 minutes Heath took the lead, a Rebecca Smallman free kick resulting in Felphams keeper fumbling the ball, and Jo Stevenson was well placed to tap home from a yard out.
Heaths joy was short lived however as twice Felphams speedy forwards latched onto through balls to give Kaye no chance and followed this up ten minutes later with a high lob to go 3-1 ahead. Heath had their chances with Natasha Sole hitting the post, followed by Captain Keveena Mosen seeing her freekick also finding the post. However before halftime Sole reduced the deficit following a well flighted free kick from Heaths “Player of the Match” Rebecca Smallman.
The 2nd half was a frustrating one for Heath who were in control for long periods with being able to apply the final shot Newcomers Helen Kerr and Sam Coppard showed some good touches and Mosen’s high lob was just to high whilst Felpham were delighted to score on the break against the run of play. Heath can be pleased with their workrate and commitment; they will play worse and come away with 3 points.
