South East Counties Womens Football League - Div 1[W] - 25th Sept 2005
Haywards Heath Town 2nds 1(Louise Rice) Eastbourne Town 1
Heath 2nds destroy Eastbournes 100% record
As with the 1sts, Heath 2nds were without a recognized keeper but Gemma Paul, playing probably her 1st game in goal for Heath, showed what a fine keeper she is .
The game started off with Eastbourne passing and retaining the ball better than Heath who were making many unforced errors all over the park. This pressure lead to Paul making an excellent save in the 5th minute, pushing the ball round the post, with Eastbourne shooting just wide from the resulting corner. In the 10th minute Paul again made a great save and again 2 minutes later Heath rode their luck this time Keeper Paul was beaten only for the ball to hit the post making a easy catch In the 20th minute the game was still all one way traffic with Gemma Paul saving a long range shot from the Eastbourne striker. This seemed to be a wake up call for Heath who worked a good attack with Mica Saunders, Louise Rice (Managers Player of the Match) and Keveena Mosen linking up well and resulting in a good shot from Mosen which just flew over the crossbar. Heath then won their first corner of the match in the 35th minute which lead to an attack by Eastbourne who played the long ball forward which Lou Creasey got with her head unfortunately the ball went the wrong way setting up the Eastbourne defender who shot a goal leaving keeper Paul with no chance of saving. The rest of the first have continued much the same with Eastbourne dominating the game.
The second half started well for Heath with Louise Rice winning a free kick just outside the box which she took as well Eastbourne had to clear the ball off the line as the ball cleared the wall and was on target. The Heath started to play well now with some good passing and moves which pressurized Eastbournes’ defence. The introduction of Francesca Pritlove gave the team more width and determination. The next Heath attack started with Pritlove putting a good ball into the box, this was squared by Natalie Trend to Louise Rice. Rice took a couple of touches and then shot ,putting the ball into the bottom corner of the net leaving the keeper stranded - at last a Heath goal !!! The pressure from Heath continued resulting in Rice having another shot this time on target but lacking any power to trouble the keeper. The only shot from Eastbourne that forced Gemma Paul to make a save in this half came in the 75th minute when they had a good shot from long range. After this it was Heath that looked the more likely to score with Natalie Trend and Yoli Rietmann working very hard setting up Saunders, Rice and Mosen to all have shooting opportunities in the last 10 minutes.
The second half performance was much improved from Heath and hopefully they can start like this next week.
