Sussex County Women’s League - Div 1
AFC B&H 2 Haywards Heath Town 2nds 4 (Trend, Bridge, Conniff, Kaye) - 25th Nov 2007
Playing against 9 players is often so much more difficult than playing against a normal 11 and this is the situation Heath found themselves in.
Going one up after fantastic follow-up work from Nat Trend gave Heath a positive start. With so much space and not many players to mark Heath laid back a bit too much, resulting in 2 quick goals from AFC from their quick strikers.
At half time Heath put into perspective of what they needed to do and went out fighting in the second half. Pressure was consistently put on AFC’s defence, and eventually Sarah Bridge making her first full debut for the club equalised from a rebounded corner. Heath knew they were back in it. The defence of Bex Smallman, Dawn Gaston, Jo Fairbairn and Julie Boyce along with stand-in goalie captain Gemma Paull kept AFC strikers at bay, which allowed them to get stuck in and contribute towards the attack. Midfielders Tash Kaye, Jo Stevenson, Kev Mosen and Trend played some excellent football giving chances all over the place for Mel Conniff and Bridge. Eventually Conniff got the third goal, with a fantastic lob over the keeper, and Kaye followed this with a left footed smash to put Heath 4-2 up.
Today showed what Heaths 2nds can do when they keep their heads up and play the good football they are capable of. Managers Player of the match goes jointly between Julie Boyce, Tash Kaye and Jo Fairbairn. Well done.
