Sussex County FA Womens League - Div 1
Seahaven 4 Haywards Heath Town 2nds 0 - 28th Oct 2007
A RTA meant a long diversion resulting in Heath arriving after a very hectic journey to Seaford 25 minutes after the scheduled kick off time . With 10 minutes to change and warm up Heath weren’t prepared enough to get on the pitch and give Seahaven a good game.
During the first half Heath found it difficult to get into the game, still trying to find their feet from the rocky start Heath were soon 1-0 down after a curling shot from outside the area, and a lucky rebound. Seahaven took advantage of Heaths disarray and soon found the back of the net again. Keeper Celia Huggett (Managers Player of the Match) tried her best to keep them out but to no avail. Just before half time Seahaven increased their lead by one more meaning a lot of hard work for Heath in the 2nd half.
After a strong half time talk, Heath woke up and started playing some attacking football. With sub Sarah Bridge replacing Jo Fairbairn and a re-shuffle in defence allowed Heath to keep Seahavens strikers at bay. Some good strong work from Tasha Kaye in midfield meant that wingers Nat Trend and Jo Stevenson and striker Mel Conniff were brought more into the attack with a few chances themselves. The defence of Bex Smallman, Kev Mosen, Dawn Gaston and Julie Boyce were kept busy, but stayed calm and absorbed the pressure. Unfortunately Seahaven slipped in a final goal, but with a much improved 2nd half performance the result did not matter.
With playing Seahaven again in 3 weeks in the cup will mean Heath need to be up for a much better performance to get the result we know we are capable of.
