HEATH 2nds score winning goal in dying seconds

Haywards Heath 2nds 3 (Fran Pritlove, Mica Saunders,Yoli Rietmann) Lewes Reserves 2

After Heaths disappointing result last week, the team were up for a good match this week. The return of Gemma Yates was met with relief after losing valuable defender Gemma Paull to fill the gap in goal. Heath started well, and within 6 minutes had already won a free kick just outside the penalty area on the goal line, which was delivered sweetly by Louise Creasey and headed perfectly into the back of the net by winger Francesca Pritlove (Managers Player of the Match) to give Heath an early lead. Heath continued with this pressure with the attack being led by Keveena Mosen (Player of the Match) and Natalie Trend, with good support from Mica Saunders, Yoli Rietmann and Pritlove. Another chance was created by left back Beverly Loftus, playing a superb ball down the wing for Saunders to latch onto and strike neatly over the keepers head to put Heath 2 goals up. Heaths defence of Rebecca Smallman, Captain Julie Hawthorne, Gemma Yates and Loftus kept any pressure from Lewes at bay until a silly free kick was conceded just outside the penalty area, which was taken before keeper Paull was ready and with help from the wind behind them guided the ball over the heads of the waiting defenders. 2-1 to Heath.

The second half continued in the same style, with chances missed by many of Heaths players. Alison Field replaced Smallman as right back and made an immediate impact keeping Lewes left wing at bay. Unfortunately due to confusion in Heaths defence Lewes were able to score an equaliser. Heath continued in their trademark fight and made chances which just couldn’t be put away.
In the final minutes Heath won a free kick just outside their penalty area. With good work from Loftus confusing the defence, the ball was able to be played through to Rietmann who calmly slotted in past the keeper with less than 30 secs remaining. Finally a result heath deserved.
