Sussex County FA Womens League – Div 1
Haywards Heath Town 2nds 2 (Rachel Virgo ) Worthing 9 - 29th Oct 2006
Heath had the worst possible start in this game with the Ref expressing concerns regarding the pitch and so Manager Sarah Miller was occupied in discussing what could be done rather than her normal prematch preparations with her team .
Eventually the problem was resolved to the satisfaction of both teams and the game commenced, only for Heath to find themselves a goal down within 5 mins, Worthing scoring from a narrow angle. Heath then held Worthing for 25 mins with Tasha Sole, Jo D’Ambra and Rachel Virgo all having chances which with a lesser keeper would have found the net . However Worthing then scored twice in quick succession against the run of play which changed the whole game., making it 0-6 at half time with the last kick of the half with Heaths going close with a Mosen free kick .
Heath re-organised in the 2nd half following some justifiable harsh words from Manager Sarah Miller and the “second half score" was 3-2 in favour of Worthing with Rachel Virgo, [Heaths Managers “Player of the Match” ] scoring twice. There was no doubt that the young Worthing side deserved to win and Heaths keeper Celia Huggett made some excellent saves on her 1st match of the season, back from a “round the world trip”but the scoreline flattered Worthing . With Heath fielding many players new to the Club this season it will take time for the team to “gel” . In this match alone Heath were missing 2 outfield players with 100% record before the game and played two making their debut.
Team: Celia Huggett , Sasha Fry [Michelle Blacker 70 mins], Gemma Paull (captain), Keveena Mosen, Rebecca Smallman, , Jo Stevenson, Julie Boyce , Jo d’Ambra, Rachel Virgo, Natasha Sole , Caroline Helgerum [Helen Kerr 45 Mins]
