Sussex County Women & Girls Football League - Supplementary Trophy

Heath on track for Supplementary Cup final

Seahaven 2 Haywards Heath Town 2nds 2 [Kim Donno, Natalie Trend]- 30th March 2008

Heath showed determination from the kick-off and the whole team played as a unit, getting behind the ball each of the many times an attack came from Seahaven.

A solid defence of Boyce, Gaston, Mosen and Fairbairn allowed the midfield to flourish, supporting the strikers Vaughan and Bridge. Heath conceded the first goal when the Seahaven striker went round keeper Alison Field on the edge of the penalty area in a one-on-one. Keveena Mosen saved the ball off the goal line, only for it to end up in the back of the net.

Heath equalised almost immediately with a fine goal when Kim Donno (Manager's Player of the Match) latched on to a through pass from Carly Vaughan and lobbed the Seahaven keeper from 30 yards out. With the midfield of Bridgewater, Donno, d'Ambra and Trend putting on the pressure with some good crosses and movement off the ball from Bridge and Vaughan, Heath then had several more shots on goal but finished the first half at 1-1. Jo d'Ambra couldn't go on for the second half because of a pulled hamstring and Jo Stevenson took over from her in the holding role.

Heath took the lead within five minutes of the restart when, from a good cross, Natalie Trend slotted the ball low into the right-hand corner of the goal. Heath held on to the lead for half an hour but the home team equalised 15 minutes from the final whistle after changing their formation to 3-4-3.

Skye Brackpool made her club debut to replace Vaughan up front and with ten minutes to go put continued pressure on Seahaven's defence. But with Heath under sustained attack for the last period of the match, they did well to hang onto a draw and gain a valuable point in the round-robin competition.

Seahaven's manager complemented Heath on a well-spirited and competitive game that was enjoyable to watch.
