Sussex County FA Womens League - Div 1
Haywards Heath Town 2nds 0 Seahaven 4 - 30th Sept 2007
Another brilliant performance by Heaths 2nds that doesn’t reflect the final result.
Although Heath only had 10 players they started brilliantly in the first half, coping with Seahavens strike force coming downhill at them first. The defence of Dawn Gaston, Jo Fairbairn, Julie Boyce and manager’s joint player of the match Bex Smallman along with keeper Celia Huggett absorbed the pressure well and didn’t allow a shot on target for the first half an hour. Seahaven became frustrated allowing Tasha Sole, Mel Conniff, Keveena Mosen, Tasha Kaye and joint manager’s player of the match Nat Trend to produce some good attacking work, but to no avail due to Seahavens keeper playing way out of her area. By half time the team were exhausted but had played the half of their lives keeping Seahaven out.
With Heath playing downhill in the second half, meant that our defence having to chase uphill, following Seahaven. Within 10 minutes Heath were 2 goals down, due to some good work and Seahaven taking advantage of the extra player. Heath still created some chances, with Conniff and Mosen linking well but to no avail. To the amazement of both sides Conniff was shown the yellow card for no apparent reason which put a real dampener on the game. Due to fatigue Seahaven managed to put 2 more goals past Huggett, although the number of outstanding saves she made completely outweighed the goals in the back of the net.
This was a disappointing result for Heath as with an extra couple of players’ they could have made things more difficult for Seahaven. We look forward to the return match.
