HEATH 3rds END SEASON ON A HIGH

Haywards Heath Town 3rds 5 [Natasha Sole 2 Stacey Hancock, Hayley Plummer, Jane Quilley] Felpham 2

Heath 3rds finished their season with their best win of the season and fully deserved the emphatic win. In the 1st half, playing down the slope it took only 4 minutes for Heath to take the lead when Natasha Sole, Heaths “Player of the Match” was the provider for Stacey Hancock to squeeze the ball home just inside the post at close range. Sole saw another shot well tipped over by the Felpham keeper before, with just 10 mins gone; she latched onto a weak goal kick and scored via the post. The Felpham goal was under almost continuous attack, both Sole and Hayley Plummer hitting the post and Jane Quilley seeing her shot well saved. However midway through the half Felpham broke away and scored, this reverse stunned Heath into more attack and minutes later Plummer skillfully turned the defender and shot high into the net to restore the 2 goal advantage. Clare Hewitt saw her shot just scrape the bar with the keeper beaten and the half continued in the same vein with Heaths defence and midfield in control and it was no surprise when just before half time Sole again seized on a poor goal kick to score her second and make it 4-1 at the interval.
Felpham scored from a penalty soon after the game restarted which gave them heart, and for a while Heath were on the defensive, with keeper Helen Bashford saving well . Debbie Johnson replaced the injured Lindsey Richardson in defence and put in a determined display, as Captain Hayley Miller lead by example in the back four. The game was a much more even affair and Felpham switched keeper and outfield player in an attempt bring more strength to their attack, but Heath regained the initiative with Emma Skilton and Sole working well together , and added a fifth near the end when Jane Quilley, who was having arguably her best game of the season, scored from close range following a Plummer cross. This was a fitting end to a season which has seen the 3rds improve noticeably, and augers well for the future success of the Club .
