Sussex County FA Womens League
B & H A 3rds 3 Haywards Heath 3rds 0 - 18th Sept 2005
This was by far the best performance seen by the 3rds who battled hard for each other for the full 90 minutes with Captain Debbie Johnson in defence setting an example for all with her commitment and determination. Emma Skilton, in goal for the injury Katie Hitchings, was missed on the pitch but her goalkeeping skills were evident on many occasions. Playing against the wind Heaths efforts were rewarded with the game remaining goalless at halftime.
Brighton started the 2nd half brightly but Heath defended well until a free kick was conceded just outside the penalty area from which Brighton scored with a superb shot into the top corner, a goal that Beckham would have been proud of, giving Skilton no chance.
Heath came back strongly but their concentration on attack enabled Brighton to score a 2nd less than 10 minutes later. Despite all their efforts Heath were unable to reduce the deficit and in the final minute of the game Heath conceded a corner from which a fierce volley left Skilton unsighted to give Brighton a flattering scoreline. Heaths back four of Chris Cater, Johnson [Heaths “Player of the Match”], Hayley Miller and Nicki Cook worked hard and were well supported by the midfield of “Chaz” Wickens, Clare Hewitt, Eve Todhunter and Hayley Plummer with “Snoz” Wickens and Tasha Kaye up front making the Albions defence work hard.
Jade Bubb, coming on with 25 mins to go and probably the youngest player in the League showed she has plenty of potential.
Despite the defeat Heath can take many positives from the game where they showed that they have learnt much from their previous 2 matches and on this performance should soon be experiencing some victories.
