Maresfield 1 Haywards Heath Town 3rds 1 [Charlotte Wickens] - 30th Oct 2005

Once again Heath were unlucky, this time conceding a goal late into injury time to deny them their 1st victory of the season. With late changes having to be made to the lineup, Heath were pleased that Nicki Whatford was able, at very short notice,to turn out for Heath between the sticks but they nevertheless started with less firing power than was planned. Hayley Plummer’s shot went just over within minutes and a Jane Quilley free kick could easily have resulted in a goal, whilst at the other end Maresfields fast forwards were well contained by Heaths defence of Nicki Cook, Hayley Miller, Debbie Johnson[ Heaths “player of the Match”] and Christina Cater. Both sides had chances to go ahead before halftime with Whatford making a great save whilst “Chaz” Wickens had a good shot saved.
After a stern halftime talk Heath emerged for a determined 2nd half with Eve Todhunter replacing Jade Bubb and within minutes Heath were unfortunate not to go ahead through Suzanne Wickens . Maresfield could have gone ahead when Heath twice managed to scramble the ball away but Heath went ahead with just 15 minutes remaining when a well directed cross by Hayley Miller enabled C Wickens to lob the keeper, and minutes later Heath could have doubled the lead, the ball rolling along the ground and rebounding off the post to safety . Debbie West replaced Plummer for the last 15 mins and Heath were devastated when, in injury time,a Maresfield miss hit shot rolled along the ground, but this time went in off the post.
